this is just a sample since i dont have all my pics yet, but i was contemplating using something similar in style to this layout for the front and then night time photos in this type of layout for the back. OR i am also playing around with this type of layout for the cover and making the photo pieces fade from day to night to where it looks like an actual scene but made with compiled pictures. also, i did away with text but am not sure if I should add any with this cover composition.
As far as my pages go, not sure if i should put 2 pics nxt to each other on a page or have 1 pic per page. I still want to give my book more of a horizontal layout, i was thinking 11"x7" for the dimensions. any suggestions would be a big help!

  1. I wouldn't but any text with the cover composition. It might get lost. I like the idea of having the daytime photos on the front cover and nighttime photos on the back. A horizontal layout works better for what you are doing.

  3. :) I agree with Sarah. I like the idea of using daytime images in the front and then night images in the back. If you're intent on adding a title, you can always put it inside the book or on the spine of the book if blurb will allow it. I like the idea of having one image per page, that way you can really concentrate on one image at a time and still be able to look at both as as a whole.

  4. since it's "day" and "night" you are dealing with, i recommend working in pairs. so if you wanted photos on the front cover, maybe a day and night photo side by side. and keep the "pair" thing going throughout the book

  5. i agree, i think if you are going to use more than one image on the cover then it should be one of day and one of night. i think the one you just designed may be too busy and detract from each individual image and the overall concept.

  6. I like the fading from day to night idea the best.
The book cover you have isn't relaying to me what you are doing...especially if you don't want to deal with font.

  7. If you are going to use a tiling effect on the cover.. Maybe try using drop shadow and embossing to give it some depth?? Maybe not.. Sometimes it looks great, sometimes not.. I would play around with it. I also agree with the whole day on front and night on back.

  8. I am digging this direction.
I also vote for day on front and night on back. The body of the book gives us the pause and it makes you want to flip it over and over again to compare. I like it. It is physical.

I dunno about the drop shadows, but you could draw lines of white or in different hues of blue, or bright colors for contrast. I wold get some help from ian or rezvan.

I also think that font should not live on the covers, and I am not sure that you need a statement. what you are doing is obvious, and a statement in your case will be overkill.

    love the new location.

  9. I love your pictures and I think you should definitely go day on front and night on back.

  10. I prefer your new cover idea of the collage over the past cover idea. I think putting the daytime images on the front and the night time images on the back would be very successful. As for the layout of you images in the book I think you should put the images each on their own page. Love the new location, beautiful perspective!

  11. i agree with day and night being on the front and back covers. this collage of photos is a little bit busy. maybe try a few less photos to see how that works out. looks good.

  12. I like the idea of the collage covers, it changes it up a little. For the inside, I'm in favor of the one image per page route. Your size works well, along with the elimination of the text.

  13. I like your idea for your cover. I'm thinking that maybe you can combine the day and night photos together for your cover and do the same for the back cover. Rather than just having day photos on the front and night photos on the back.

  14. The new collage cover is amazing. I do think the day/night photos on the front is more in line with your vision. I do not always immediately look at the back cover of a book, so I might not connect with your story. A title would not be necessary if you had both types of images on the front.

I like the idea of depicting the images on opposite pages of the book's interior. This would make the photos flow well for the viewer.

    Great cover concept!

  15. I'm torn! I really liked the first cover you came up with, but this new one is really neat too! :) I think that for the inside, you should put one picture on each page. I cant wait to see more pics! Keep up the great work! :D

  16. Maybe try putting the day time photos on the front and the night time on the back. Both covers are really great, though! Just a suggestion!
